I'll be honest with you, Reader...
I was nervous AF to send out yesterday's email.
See, I work almost every day to make Finally Fit better.
And it was really tough to admit that the app needed a massive upgrade if I really wanted to fulfill its mission of being your ultimate fitness companion.
It became clear that small, incremental improvements just wasn't gonna cut it anymore — it needed a complete rebuild from the ground up.
Let me show you what I mean...
In v1, you were taken to the Dashboard screen when you start the app:
Now, there isn't really anything wrong with this page.
But over the last few months, I found myself glazing over this screen and not really doing much with it. I don't think it sucks, but it could be a lot better.
I realized the problem was that it's trying to do 2 jobs at once:
- show you your daily actions, AND
- give you a picture of your progress
And that's A LOT for a single screen to handle well.
That's why in v2.0, the app now opens to the Today screen which has one goal...
To show you checklist of what you actually need to do today:
The screen has been redesigned to answer one question:
"Am I doing the right things right now?"
It's all about executing on the things that matter while giving you little nudges to help you stay on track.
But wait, what about those times you need to zoom out?
Well, that's where the new Dashboard screen comes in.
If the Today screen helps you make better daily decisions...
...The Dashboard helps you make sure those decisions are pointed towards the right direction.
The Dashboard has one job:
To show you how your overall progress has been going.
See, the last thing you want is for one imperfect day to erase a perfectly good week.
We all know it's impossible to do things perfectly every single day of every week... But you CAN show up daily to do something, especially on days when motivation is low.
And having logged on the app almost every single day, I can honestly say that separating these two screens — your actions today, and your progress over time — makes that SO MUCH EASIER to do.
But here's the thing, Reader...
That's not even the biggest change coming in 2.0.
Tomorrow, I'm going to show you the one thing v1 never had:
A built-in food logging system.
No more hopping between apps and manually logging your totals. Importing from Apple Health is still an option, but it's no longer a requirement.
Coz now, the app gives you a fast, friction-free way to keep track of how much you're eating to make it much easier to manage your diet.
I'm really excited about this one.
Be on the lookout for my email tomorrow — I'll catch you then.
